ipower sucks

Special web hosting offer - LIMITED TIME ONLY

ipower has really become a nightmare. They never were great in my book but could be tolerated. But not now. Since moving to V-Deck 3 my site is a total wreck, can't use any ftp programs to try and upload updated site because server times out in 1-3 seconds after connecting. Tech support is a joke. Chatted with rep after waiting an hour and all i could get from him was my site worked and looked great. What a joke. Emails are useless. Takes 3 or 4 days for them to get back with you and ask for security question answer, then another 3 or 4 days to say they see no issues with site. I have already lost hundreds or thousands of dollars because of their incompetence and am now in the process of moving my sites to another host. From what I've read from some of these post, that may be a nightmare in itself, but what choice do we have. Right now I am out of business. I had to stop all ads promoting my sites because customers could not access my site. I'm moving to a well-respected host that has been around for years even if it cost a little more. Compared to what I have lost new hosting fees seems like pocket change. I just hope I can get my customers back. In summary: IPOWER SUCKS!!!!!

I agree with you. Can you tell me who you are going with - who's your new host?

1) Have you found a provider with less suck factor. AND 2) let's all make the extra effort to bury these jackasses with the same blatent disregard their tech support has given all of us. These wankers have cost me tens of thousands due to their incompetence. I suggest everyone who's a hater contacts the consumer affairs people at your local network TV affiliates. They love to go after these kind of #$%s. Oh, it's on!!!!! 5 hour on hold, and still no email after 5 years as a customer pisses me off - can you tell? F#%@ Ipower!

I have been a reseller with iPower for a little over 2 years. At first everything seemed to be fine. But when the decided to move all of my accounts to a new hosting platform, everything went down the tubes. I am not joking when I say we spend more than 25 hours each and every week on hold with support. Then you either get a blow-off answer or you get some newbie punk ass (Jason) that is so cocky you can't get him to shut up long enough to listen to your question.

iPower has cost me several clients and thousands of dollars. We have more than 53 sites hosted with them and we are desparately trying to move all of them to a new hosting facility. The latest issues involve iPower changing ftp passwords and disabling the user from logging in and changing the password. Everytime we try to access one of our clients' sites we have to call support, stay online for 1-1 1/2 hours to get them to give you the correct password. Same thing applies to databases. They have entirely disabled the ability to export databases with the relationships intact. This makes moving all of my database driven sites to a new host a friggin nightmare.

Please avoid a massive amount of frustration and pick a better host. I've heard GoDaddy, Dreamhost, and HostDime are all really good. I would avoid iPower like the plague.

Agreed, Ipower is worthless. Horrible support, Horrible service.
I'm also in the process of moving all my domains to other providers.

I have been an ipower reseller for over 4 years. Yes, they do suck. I am transferring all of my clients to another reseller program that I have been testing for over a year. The hold times are unbearable, compounded by the rotten service that is received once someone answers. The email response times are the worst. Why in the world does it take 3 - 4 days to respond to an email to ask for a security question and then another week to resolve even the simplest issue. I have had it. NO MORE for me. I have been canceling about one account per week with them. Now, they have removed the CANCEL ACCOUNT button from the reseller control panel. I opened a support ticket to cancel an account 2 days ago. Today I received an email requiring that I call them to cancel. Are they kidding?

They have indeed removed the CANCEL option, and SUPPORT never responds. How then do we actually CANCEL IPOWER webhosting services? My concern is that they still have my credit card. What prevents them from using it? I did contact the BBB, but that process was also a joke. IPOWER responded that it is in the process of migrating the domains.... Help, IPOWER has taken away my power :(

its the same with me Gail.....if you got the latest info on how to cancel an account from iweb let me know k.....im kinda worried that they will bill me every month...i have just signed up and its under 30 days....i want my money back

I removed my credit card information from my reseller account and notified them in writing not to bill my credit card without written authorization from me. So far it has worked. They have not billed me for any renewals and I am canceling each account as it expires. Oh my gosh, who in the world has the time it takes to conduct business with ipower.com. The new reseller control panel is so slow that it reminds me of the day when I had a Compaq Presario with Windows 95 and Netzero free dial-up internet.

I had a domain included in my web hosting package. I cancelled them both before either one was up for renewal. They cancelled the web hosting first and then they billed me for the previous year of the domain sayimg that it was no longer free since I cancelled my web hosting even though I cancelled both at the same time. Then a customer service rep was yelling at me because I did not understand why they would bill me for the previous year. Extremely unprofessional bad service! And I had had them for several years, but since they merged with Endurance International in May 2007 they messed up my files switching to the new vdeck.

Here are my uptime figures for the last couple of weeks. They speak for themselves. If you don't have a business website hosted with IPower, then count yourself lucky.

Dudes, I was just thinking, planning of establishing a blog or something for the sole purpose of uncovering Ipower ugliness, and relieve my anger a bit about the experience they have given me! However, an inner voice spoke my mind asking, since Ipower sucks, a such website or blog must be already there, right?! So, I searched the web with the exact term came to my mind in such condition, and here we are!
Dudes, do you have any idea how painful it is to lose what you have been building during the last 5 years of your life, due to a hosting disaster that is there for more than 2 months - and still counting- unsolved? I'm talking about the famous Ipower issue of the hour: Any PHP-MySQL site is loading in days! Yep! That includes all WordPress blogs and any database driven page! Thousands of complains, support tickets and screaming were met carelessly! Thanks to them, the website loading time is so long that search engines think the website is gone! Visitors are moving away, link partners' automatic checker can't find their links, thus, report that we must be crooks and remove our links back! Advertisers are running away with their money because they are not interested in ads that hide behind long loaded pages! We had enough troubles since their vdeck 3 migration that resulted in looking and tons of serious problems and corrupted moved files! But now this chaos, 2 months of killing my website slowly, I just can't believe what they are doing to their own customers.

I can't believe I'm even taking the time to comment on those @#$% bastards. They have no regard for the pain they are causing their customers (soon to be former customers). If you have any MySQL dbases on iPower, pray. We are switching all of our clients to our own reseller program through another hosting company.

I hope there is an attorney reading these comments - a class-action law suit is in order for such blatant negligence.

My website crashed the day I-power transferred me over to the new v-deck 3.0 (3/21/08). I spent 5 hours trying to re-upload before I finally called tech support. The first guy I spoke had a very heavy accent and was very hard to understand. He was zero help and after he disconnected me I called back. Second guy was english literate but after almost 2 hours told me my problem was publisher not I-power? huh.....? Never had a problem before they transferred me over. Already losing business as clients need to be able to view my products to purchase......thanks I-power!

I have been trying for 6mths to cancel a hosting account, they did nothing they said they would to setup the account, they said I could get a refund but I have been trying for 6 months and have not received anything but static from them. Stay far far away from these people, they have actually setup their structure to exclude any communication with management, and are not a good hosting company. Downtime was extreme every week.

Stay Far Away, very bad company.

I have used IPOWER web hosting company for over the past two and a half years, in which I have a continued series of problems with the features IPOWER offers as part of their package plan.

The first was the Agora shopping cart software IPOWER offers as part of their package plan I purchased. I paid IPOWER's design team to set up the Agora shopping cart on my web site, which after hearing every excuse under the sun from IPOWER that it was set up right, but it in fact was not. I lost hundreds of dollars in sales. I finally hired someone from Agora to set it up correctly.

The latest problem is with Frontpage Extensions which clearly states on IPOWER's web site that they offer as part of the IPOWER PRO PLAN. However, according to IPOWER's tech support they do not in fact support all of the features of FrontPage which is false advertising.

I paid for a FrontPage-compatiable server, which IPOWER is advertising that they are. All of the features for FrontPage need to be supported - not just some of them. The supervisor said the same thing about Frontpage as IPOWER's design team said about AGORA shopping cart: "It is dinosaur software - Microsoft doesn't even support them any longer."

Well - what I'd like to know is, if Agora and Frontpage are such outdated softwares, why is IPOWER promoting them as part of their advertising? I think the only dinosaurs are IPOWER's tech support and design team who the majority are incompetant.

IPOWER's Tech Response: Unfortunately, we do not support Front Page subwebs feature. We simply support connectivity and publishing .

I’ve used IPOWER for 3 years. They had a good deal at one time but possibly due to selling too many accounts have degraded into a complete joke. In my company, I handle all advertising and media, which includes web and print so I deal with many different companies. IPOWER has been the worst company I have ever dealt with in my life. The billing department shut us down in error until we verified payment with both a confirmation email from them and a scanned credit card transaction. We were down for 2 days. Tech Support has established an new level of horrible by combining total incompetence with total apathy, a pinch of rudeness and unprofessionalism, a few 5 hours on hold waiting for service, and a few weeks of waiting for promised emails that never come. The way IPOWER has handled these problems that we've had should be a felony. The previous comment from ipowerfan to stop whining and switch would be great advice if they wouldn’t have lost every file my company uses to conduct business. My account is not a website for my cat, it is how we do business and IPOWER has cost us a lot of money. Just in my salary for the time that I've spent dealing with these dumb#sses would far exceed the 2 year subscription (which will be refunded they said) We will switch, that is an absolute certainty. I just have to bite my lip and beg for my files back until I can see there is no hope, then I can decide whether I want to curl up in the fetal position and start trying to rebuild what was lost, or spend hours writing statements like these, submitting to the BBB, and trying to organize a class action lawsuit. Either way I lose on this one.

Ipower sucks. They are completely worthless. Their tech's are idiots. You can never get thru, etc.

Dopn't ever deal wit these stupid people, you will be sorry!

Not sure if you noticed but the address of this website is www.ipowercomplaints.com. Let me say that again:
www.ipowerCOMPLAINTS.com. I have never been to this website until today but my guess is that it is a site set up to COMPLAIN about the service provided by iPower. No one here is "kicking them while they are down". They are simply voicing their opinions, repeat: OPINIONS, on the crappy service that they have received from iPower. I host with iPower and my site is down right now. It’s kind of aggravating, which is what led me here. I am not sure how you ended up here unless you seek out websites to complain about complainers, which then make you an even bigger complainer than the original complainers. Just let us complain about iPower in peace and go find somewhere else to spead your "love" for iPower.

working for them sucks as much as being a customer

I have my resume posted on Monster and I got a call from ipower. They wanted me to come in for an interview and if they liked me would have me start the next day. I have never heard of such a thing, What kind of company hires someone before doing a background check. They only provide two weeks of training for a tech support position.
Damn! I haven't even worked there yet and I can already tell that they suck.

After 5 years with ipower I can finally say good riddance to them as I have left them for good. They have bar none the worst tech service in the industry and they could care less. Standard procedure for them is to make you wait on hold before they even answer the first time, then as soon as they find out what your complaint is they put you back on hold forever and go answer someone else's call. They owed me a refund and supposedly approved it 2 weeks ago and of course I never got it, so I called again today and after 30 minutes on hold was given a confirmation number and again told I would be getting it very soon. Several hours later I receive an email stating that I would NOT be getting my refund, go figure. They finally figured out I was no longer a customer I guess. As others have stated all my problem started when I got moved to the vdeck servers, what a nightmare and none of the jerks working there has a clue what is going on. All I can say is I am glad I am finally gone and they SUCK bigtime!! I also filed a complaint with the BBB and intend to do them as much damage as possible!

In January 2008, I had my web hosting service paid up until June 2008. Due to the many technical problems and downtime issues with their service, I moved my hosting service in January 2008 and advised IPOWER.
What I didn't realize at the time was that IPOWER was also the Registration Service Provider. Not only did IPOWER NOT RENEW my domain registration in June 2008, but they billed my credit card for anotther year's hosting service. Now, my web site is down because the registration expired. I have sent numerous e-mails to IPOWER, but so far absolutely no response. My new web hosting service cannot help me with the domain renewal, IPOWER won't help, and the site is down.
So, I really don't know what happens how. I have spent almost a year in developing and promoting the web site and now, thanks to IPOWER, I'm totally out of business.

Read the "Retrieving your domain name" section of the HostJury article for information about possibly getting your domain name back from iPower. You'll need to contact Tucows directly.

It's kind of ironic, the e-mail to the compliance@tucows.com BOUNCED!
Finally, I received an email to confirm the registration provider transfer.
The web site, after 5 long days, and thousands of dollars, is back on line.
I did file a complaint with the Phoenix, AZ Better Business Bureau.
I don't understand why Tucows continues to allow them to be re-sellers.
IPOWER really needs to just shut down.

It's been several months since we finally severed our reseller relationship with Ipower. Transferred all the domain names, cancelled all the accounts, endured all the rudeness. And then this ... turns out that a year ago, a client had registered two domain names that were in violation of another company's registered trademark. TuCows acted on it right away and we asked them to cancel the domains and contacted Ipower with the same information. "No problem." Right. Well, a long chain of emails later (since I wanted to make sure Ipower was really cancelling the two domains), I get the classic "We renewed your domain name today!" email from Ipower. Talk about a way to make my day smileful :) Now I'm back to experiencing the same good ol' fashioned customer [dis]service that made me run so far away earlier. If they won't take care of the problem, guess I'll have to just resort to either cancelling any credit cards they might possibly still have in their system and/or initiating a charge back every time they renew an imaginary account or domain name. Yep ... you've just got to love Ipower.

Wow, so not only were their servers slower than hell but they kept going down. I finally got sick of them and am in the process of trying to transfer my domain to godaddy and then I can host it with my hostgator reseller account...with which I have never had a problem.

Reading this makes me worry slightly. No point in calling or emailing because we all know how that ends!

What a useless bunch of wankers!!!!

Just cancelled my hosting account with Ipower. I gave up trying to find a Cancel button/link and just contacted billing. Verified all the info and was done in 5 minutes. The irony was that the Ipower website was slower than dial-up. The account I just ditched was way faster.

I guess if they make it frustrating enough for the client to hunt for something that may not be there at all, then they'll just put it off and eat another charge on their card. Yummy...

hey my friend... i canceled my account with ipower. can u tell me what is your new isp ?
thx...
email me at kazazis@clockworx.com.cy

How can i trust all these Whatever-Hosting-Sucks-Reviews when they are full of other hosting companies ads!!!!

Good point. I think all the advertising on this site is a bad move. I wouldn't mind springing a few dollars to just to keep this site alive - that's how much I dislike Ipower!

I started managing some websites that are on iPower, and they recently moved to a new hosting platform. Needless to say, they broke a lot of things (PHP-based but really just brochureware).

So-called level-2 support does not understand anything. They fix one thing and break another. Cannot check thoroughly.

Phone help are these guys from Asia who do not have an idea how to understand the problem. (I grew up in the same Asian country so no flames, ok? Nice people, but hardly trained to handle support calls.)

I don't know if it's worth my time to keep on bugging them about these problems, ans they have no clue on how to fix them.

As an aside, I am a reseller for UnitedHosting and while they are not cheap, they do respond well and are knowledgeable.

Once again tonight I cannot log in to my site to work. Worked several hours yesterday and hit save constantly, logged out then back in to not booggle them, then it all was lost when a save froze on their end. Today redid all from yesterday, worked hours to get to the ppublish point so i can ftp (and now I see you cannot ftp it as it times out, like mine did today when I tried to ftp old site) but want to try and have it on my own computer, but no, once again - i cannot log in, just like last night. Who knows what will be there tomorrow.

I am screwed, the website domain is on and in my published novel that i am promoting, I need that domain or I would just make a new bussiness name and start my life over elsewhere, all work slashed from my life in the previous efforts just a loss to bear.

I am screwed but i see I am in good company.

If you still have an active account with iPower, there is an account cancellation form you can utilize at:

http://members.ipower.com/webControl/signoff.bml

It looks like they only give this out when you open a support ticket to have the account closed.

I worked for ipower 3 years ago and working for them sucks as much as being their customer.
Faced lots of difficulties since Endurance International took it over. Their way of handling customers and managing the servers is #!%@. Seems like they don't care for the customers. I would seriously recommend keep away from them!

After reading all these comments, I feel better. I thought it was just me having problems with ipower. I love how when you call with a problem and you can't access your site, they tell you they can see it and it's fine. I can't connect to my databases - a lot - and when they moved my account over to the new platform, I spent hours on the phone. I still can't get to my databases like right NOW.. I found this site out of sheer frustration! They are a mess and I hope someone reading these posts will think twice before using ipower.
