domain name transfer
I am afraid I am going to lose one of my client's domain names because of ipower. I have just initiated a domain name transfer from ipower to another hosting company and can't get any help from ipowerweb. The hosting company sent the authorization code along with password to the domain registrant e-mail. All I need to do is reply to that e-mail and retrieve that info., but I can't. I am stuck because ipowerweb is not cooperating. In fact, I think they are determined for me to lose that domain name. They are definitely fraudulent. I went to internic.com to do a whois search for my domain name and according to INTERNIC the registrant name is: contactprivacy.com and the registrant email is "domainname"@contactprivacy.com. When I log into Vdeck under domain central my domain name is showing "pending" for domain privacy. I have given up on talking to someone on the phone, so I have sent numerous emails to tech support and they say I have not replied to their e-mail they sent out about enabling domain privacy on this domain name. I emailed them back stating that I never received that e-mail. My last email to them included screenshots of the INTERNIC whois page showing the domain registrant info. (showing the privacy company as the registrant) along with a screenshot of my control panel with the word "pending" under PRIVACY.
Someone suggested sending an e-mail to compliance@opensrc.org. Does anyone else have any suggestions about what to do so that I won't lose that domain name?

Hi Tab,
I feel for you. Although iPower holds nothing over my head at the moment, I've had domain names held hostage before at RegisterFly.com (DON'T USE THEM!!!) and I know what you are going through.
There is a good thread over at HostJury containing some advice about what to do to get your domain name back. Here's the link: http://hostjury.com/blog/view/90/escape-from-ipowerweb-how-to-leave-ipow...
Good luck to you! Please let us know if you're successful in reclaiming your domain name.
Regards,
Matt
I just spoke to tech support at http://www.enduranceinternational.com/acquisitions/contact.bml and they are looking into it. Apparently I was one of the first to contact them when the sale occured.
The Endurance International Group, Inc, Third Floor, 70 Blanchard Road, Burlington, MA 01803
General Number: 866-897-5421
1) THEY CAN ACCESS THE IPOWERWEB support que,
2) Open a ticket up,
3) Have your info ready to send them
4) tell them you've been here, they know about it.
5) Tell them you will sign on to any litigation e.g. class action
Last month I sent emails to this compliance@opensrc.org and they couldn't do anything, sent me back to Ipowerweb.com which is useless.
I also experienced the same contact privacy email as my domains were locked as I refused to reverse a chargeback but we all know why. I think they shipped thousands of domains to this site and I bet they got thousands of domains generating revenue for free by placing the names in registrar lock.
We are all victims here but in 30 years of being in business I have never a company perform so badly.
If anyone needs a website or hosting register with me at http://www.smartergeeks.com, I have several servers and you can find us http://www.msofficeexperts.com, we offer hosting, site design and support. We are small and prefer established business customers.

I am having the same exact problem, even after I updated my Administrator contact, with my current email. Now I'm trying to disable whois privacy but I keep getting errors. Ipower support is some of the worst support I've seen in 6 years of dealing with domain registers.
I've been trying to transfer a domain away from them for over a month now. Mail sent to the listed email address (@contactprivacy.com) is blackholed. I finally had to pay iPower a renewal fee rather than risk losing the name. So now they've extorted money from me, as well as ignoring support requests and (I believe) violating ICANN's domain regulations on the display of contact information. And I STILL cannot get their support to respond.
Thanks to Pete for the contact information for Endurance...
TRANSFER YOUR DOMAINS from iPower ASAP:
1) Contact the Endurance Group (listed above in Pete's comment)
2) Get the auth codes for each domain name
3) Go to another domain registrar (GoDaddy, Register.com, Network Solutions - if you've got a budget) and issue a transfer request
I've been a victim of a domain registrar going down in flames. RegisterFly.com went down big and took a lot of familes' livelihoods with it. Not pretty at all. Get your domain names into the hands of a trusted registrar ASAP. Never EVER use RegisterFly.com or iPower.
REMEMBER File complaints with the BBB and the AZ State Attorney General
So far Ipower got about 6 of my domains released but I've lost over 16 to the parking operations,.
It's a waste of time but Terry Stoddard is SAG usually acts but so far has demonstrated lameness in this case.
Endurance International will hang up if you mention any legal action.
In my 30 years of B2B I have seen several former customers get arrested for overcharging, double charging VISA terminals. The most common scam is to use the terminal and accidently run the sames charges twice. We've all seen these from the little restaurant that know you'll never be back to the gas station that runs your card twice.
Doing this is illegal and is in violation of your Card Terminal Aggreement (yes read your contract). I suspect that Ipower did this many times. Make your complaints known to the Phoenix AZ PD.
I am going to make a claim but don't be surprised if we get letters from either the AZ AG or the DA.
KEEP COMPLAINING
DOES ANYONE KNOW IF A CLASS ACTION WILL BE FILED?
Ipower registers domains through tucows. changes to the domain can be made through https://manage.opensrs.net/
you will need to know the login and password however. unfortunately, if you do not, they can only be retrieved from ipower.
domain privacy is also turned on/off through that.
Hi,
I am glad to see I am not alone here, I have been fighting with IPOWER since February to no avail. They processed auto renewals on 6 domains and two hosting accounts at the end of February and billed my credit card as such (each a separate charge).
However, they did not credit one of the hosting accounts and its domain and say I never renewed it. I explained that it was auto renewed and that it was charged to my credit card as I am seeing all the charges on my bank statement.
They explained that I was only billed for one of the domains and it's hosting - but can not explain to me what the addtional charges to IPOWER that appear on my bank statement are for if that is true.
The tech support replies are so stupid it could be funny if it was not hurting my business.
I have several more domains with IPOWER and want to get them away ASAP - but I too am worried how they will screw that up.
I have also been lead to believe from IPOWER that if I request a charge back from my bank on the charges that they cannot explain - that all my accounts assocaited with that card may be suspended. How do you like that one...
I really hope someone starts a class action suit against these pigs.
I too am being victimized by ipowerweb, having transferred everything and set up over 260 pages of stuff to the new host, am now finding that I cannot transfer because the new host is sending the auth code and password to that contactprivacy address. I did get into manage.opensrs.net and insure that all contact addresses I could change were done, but do not know if whois will recognize the change. Or when. If anyone knows anything, please update here. Thanks.
Hello- I found that once it is possible to get into manage.opensrs.net and you disable the contact privacy in there, and update the actual email addresses to what you want, and save it, you will find the info changed if you do a whois search. Hopefully this will help. I just did it, and am hoping that solves the issue for my transfer. I am the poster for the above message, too.
I have answered this in the article - Having multiple domains with the same content. Page Rank is a function of the number and quality of links coming into your website. In fact, if you 301 redirect all your domains into one domain, you will have more Page Rank into that one domain.
How long does it take before contactprivacy changes made through https://manage.opensrs.net/ web interface show up in whois searches?
I submitted a ticket asking for the opensrs user ID and password for my domain names and ipower sent me the login information with no problem.
FYI, the login appears to always be the first 8 letters of the domain name and the password you used at the time you registered. So you can try that first.
